Kelsi's Missouri Grand Prix Blog:
Here are some of the amazing highlights all lived out on the Jersey Storm
swim bench at the Missouri Grand Prix...
- There are so many amazing swimmers at this meet. I got a free swim
cap from Toyota. The available space for autographs has lessened and
lessened each time I asked another swimmer including Natalie Coughlin, Kate
Ziegler, Katie Hoff, Ryan Lochte, Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen, Neil Walker,
Ian Crocker, Michael Phelps, and Gary Hall Jr.(Matt and I even got a picture
with him!).
- This is the first meet to have any swimmer wear the new Speedo LZR
RCR swim suit just announced this past week. We didn't think that many
swimmers would be able to wear it considering you have to preorder even for a
chance to own it. We were surprised to see the National team wear them for
competition the first day. We were even more surprised (more like shocked)
when Amy pulled us out of the water during warm ups and brought us over to
the Speedo table. There were a few swimmers at the table, but no more than
ten. Then Amy explained to us that ANY swimmer who signed up could have the
chance to wear the suit for the night!!! Matt and I raced over and were given
suits to wear. I still cannot believe that I got to wear the suit before it
can even be purchased. When I would go up for my events, people would see me
walk past them in the new suit and think, "Who is she and why can't I have
that?".
- There have been so many records broken too. The announcer makes
sure everyone is up on their feet cheering for every swimmer. It is really
cool that we get to see history in the making and being made.
- The technology at this pool is amazing. They have underwater
cameras that get shown in color onto the scoreboard. They even have your
name, and your team listed with your lane assignment on the electronic
scoreboard. They have pads for the blocks that sense if you false started.
Not that I think Storm should get these or anything, but it is really cool.
